Dana Student Led Conferences

Dana Student Led Conferences

Good Evening Dana Families and Friends,

Tomorrow Dana Middle School will host the 10th Annual Student Led Conference (SLC) Event, which is one of the BEST days of the year!  Students and staff members have worked diligently all year to prepare for this event that is one of our most treasured and longest-standing Signature Practices.  A majority of our 7th and 8th grade families have experienced this rewarding opportunity and I wish you all a productive conference.

Our 6th grade families are new to the Student Led Conference format, but certainly, will not be let down by the process.  SLCs afford our families an opportunity to engage in a dialogue, facilitated by their child, around the goals they have set this year, how they fared, and successes/challenges they faced.  I hope by now you have all been able to set an SLC appointment with your child's TLC teacher.  It is not often that we get to sit in a dedicated setting with our children and look at and listen to their year-at-a-glance.  The traditional Open House and/or parent-teacher conferences are replaced with the gift of a Student Led Conference that demonstrate the ownership our students have taken over their learning.  I am personally excited for my first opportunity to participate as a parent in my own child's SLC this year.  Hopefully, each of you share the same excitement!

If you have not already set up an appointment, it is not too late.  Please email your child's TLC teacher and/or contact the Main Office for direction.

I wish you all a nice evening and look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Take care,

Blake Silvers

Principal's Message

Dear Dana Middle School Families and Friends,

Welcome to R.H. Dana Middle School in the Wiseburn School District!  We are proud to be a California Distinguished School, a California Gold Ribbon School, and a National Forum School to Watch.  These designations have only been achieved with a strong teaching and support staff, an amazing and supportive community, and the best students around.  I cannot believe we are rapidly approaching the end of the year, and with that, there are some very important events coming up that will highlight all of the hard work and dedication of our Dolphins over the past year.  Starting on May 2nd, we will begin our 3 week administration of the annual state assessment (SBAC) and I will be sending specific information and logistics via my eblast leading up to and throughout the SBAC testing time period.  Following SBAC, our students will showcase their year in our annual Student Led Conferences on May 25.  I strongly encourage all parents to take the time to join us on this afternoon/evening as it has always been a memorable experience for all involved.

Lastly, as we approach the end of the year, we will begin the process of bidding a fond farewell to our 8th grade students with many culminating activities.  We will send out information as we get closer to the end of the year.  With our 8th graders ending their time at Dana and moving on to high school, we want to welcome our newest Dolphins.  On May 19th we will host our first annual 5th grade mixer for Anza and Burnett students.  We are excited about this event and look forward to welcoming our newest students and parents to the Dana Middle School community.

Dana Middle School and the Wiseburn Unified School District is an amazing place!  We continue to take pride in offering the best educational and extra-curricular opportunities for all of our students!

Go Dolphins!
